His First First Birthday Party

Last weekend, Christian turned ONE. Yay!! Hooray!! Yippee!!

We had the first of 2 birthday parties for him – this one was for our wonderful extended family and neighbours (the next party is for friends). Christian has too many admirers.

Obviously, he was the centre of attention.

He was a little stunned at first with so many people, but he soon took it all in his stride.

Christian received not one but THREE birthday cakes from Grandma Andree!

What an amazing cake.

We all loved it, although I think Christian would rather have hugged it.

Our happy family.

Our happy immediate family

I think Christian had a tiring but very satisfying day. He had his cake and ate it too.

We would like to thank all those who helped us celebrate Christian’s big day. It was really wonderful.

Heights

Oh. Hi. Don’t know how I got up here…

Life imitating art.

His first big, big bruise.

Surprisingly (and especially after his climbing feats in the last few days), this was not caused by a fall. He walked into the edge of a closing door. The bruise came up in seconds – a blue/white centre and lots of swelling. He doesn’t appear to be that worse for wear, although Claudie was convinced for a while that he had cracked his skull.

Oh well. It looks like Christian will have a pair of black eyes on his first birthday!

Another day, another toy to stand on.

You can’t turn your back on this kid!!!

Checking out the music (and the music unit is moving further and further away from the edge!)

Now, how do I get down from here?

Adventures in Parenting (and Not So Good Parenting!)

Christian was quiet and when he is quiet, we know he is up to something. We found him standing on the seat of his tricycle and reaching into the fruit bowl:

So did we get him down from his tricycle? No. We took photos instead!

And, of course, the inevitable happened. He actually saved himself quite well (he didn’t bang his head or suffer any hurt), no thanks to his parents!

All this effort was for an apple.

The reward.

I’m sure that he thinks that it was worth the effort.

And now, Claudie and I will slap ourselves on the wrist. And wonder what dangerous thing he will attempt next.

At home

Christian wants to feed himself now, but he hasn’t quite figured out how. Can’t you tell? 🙂

Mum and bub.
